Americas Best Value Inn Loma Lodge

VERY BASIC, but also very cheap, which is what we wanted for a short, very short time after a long flight and leaving early the next morning.

Very large room.

This is an older hotel, pretty bare-bones in the rooms, but well-maintained. Big plus for me is mini-fridge and microwave. No coffeemaker, but I bring my own including coffee, or one could heat water in the microwave. Staff was just outstanding - friendly, helpful, actually walked me to my room because that door handle required a little "finesse" to operate. Could not get the TV to work, so the woman at the front desk actually came to my room to see if she could figure it out. She could not, so she said she would have the owner call me. The actual owner did call me in less than 5 minutes, apologized for being off-site, and walked me through using the 2 provided controllers to get TV reception. I thought that was pretty amazing customer service! Further, the owner was at the front desk in the morning. A very hands-on operation! My room was adjacent to the pool, but the minimal noise was fine with me and limited to pool hours anyhow. No suitcase luggage rack, so I used the desk chair, and no clothes hangers - I didn't need any. The bed mattress in my room was extremely firm, but I slept good and had no aching joints. May need to reassess my own mattress. Good location with grocers and shopping nearby, not far from Liberty Station, and a short drive to Shelter Island, Ocean Beach, or Mission Beach. I love that the hotel is small so everything is just steps away.

Staff was very nice, from the front desk to the cleaning ladies! Room and pool were clean. Would stay here again as long as the prices stay affordable.

Good location while still being accessible and near good places to eat within 10min of driving. Very hospitable staff.
